Band-Saracens in partnership with Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras inaugurated last saturday (Aug 22) a new rugby field in the city of São Paulo. The new field will receive all matches of the club, including the National Championship, Paulista Championship, women’s and youth matches.
The space becomes the home of Band-Saracens, and has oficial dimensions, changing rooms, accommodations for training camps and a great area for the extra-time. It has also a bar and restaurant to the public. A complete infrastructure to receive members and supporters, as well as an incredible view on the brink of Guarapiranga Dam.
“Palmeiras always had tradition to support other sports, including rugby. In the 1920s rugby games were held in the old Parque Antartica. Palmeiras also had a rugby team in the early 1980s,” recalls CEO of Band-Saracens, Antonio Neto Martoni. Director of the country club, Sueli Palma celebrates: “We are very proud to welcome the rugby in our house.”
The partnership, which continues the tradition of Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras to support various sports, offers the country club in character exclusively for the Band-Saracens. The São Paulo rugby club, in counterpart, will deploy within the local training for Palmeiras youth teams, creating a new sport development center.
“We are sure it will be a great partnership. Our club, with over 30 years of tradition in rugby, implement and coordinate youth teams in the Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, while the giant Palmeiras enters infrastructure and support aimed at the practice of sport. It is a partnership that surely will be beneficial for both, “says Antonio Martoni.
In the opening game of the new field Band-Saracens won against São José for the 8th round of the National Championship by 21 x 15.
Rugby is an Olympic sport, and the male and female Brazilian teams will be attending the Rio 2016 Olympics. Athletes and coaches from Band-Saracens will be part of this historic moment of the sport in Brazil. The palm trees country club is located in Parelheiros in Avenida Professor Hermann Von Lhering, 6300, in São Paulo (SP). See the indicative map: www.palmeiras.com.br/clube/clube_de_campo.
