Band-Sarries got third place in Silver Cup of the Paulista 7s Rugby Championship last weekend (15 and 16) at the Club Campestre de São Bernardo do Campo. Ibirapuera team ended the competition with victory by 10-3 over the rivals Pasteur. Before, faced the champion São José and the vice, SPAC, with defeat for both the quarter-final and in the first phase, respectively. Band-Sarries still won the Pinda team by 24-0 and lost to URA from Alphaville.
“We were in seventh and unfortunately we could not get to BR Sevens Circuit. The loss to URA, by 14-10 in the semifinal finished off our chances. The positive points are the real opportunity we had to win SPAC, wich had five professional players in the field of the Sevens National teameven with us without Laurent and Pedro Rosa, who were serving the XVs national team.” reported the sevens prop Marcelo Bellorio, who also plays on XV as second row.
Overall, the Band-Sarries placed seventh in the tournament organized by the São Paulo Federation of Rugby (FPR) and the Palestra Templários team. The top five teams from this championship, São José, SPAC, Ilhabela, Jacareí and Rio Branco, compete in December the Brazilian Sevens Championship, the BR Sevens in São José dos Campos.
