With the defeat in the semifinal, the Bandeirantes Saracens will fight for bronze in Paulista A 2014 against Pasteur on July 9th.
In the semifinal match against SPAC last Sunday (29/6) in the opponent’s field, the Band-Sarries felt the injuries of two important players during the game and could not impose your game against the current Brazilian champions. Early in the second half, Band Sarries scored a try and reduced the lead to 12-7. In the previous bid, Chabal and Marton, the try scorer, got hurt in the same play and had to leave the field, making it difficult to attempt a Band-Sarries reaction, who was defeated by 33-7.
“They had a faster line and that we coul’d not cancel it. We even dominated the game in the first 15 minutes of the first and second time, but it was not enough. We lost two of our props in the same play, which destabilized the team” analyzed the coach Gesner Martoni, recognizing the best performance of the opponent. “Their victory as a result was very fair.”
The Band Sarries CEO, Antonio Neto Martoni also praised the qualities of SPAC, but lamented the absence of major athletes, who even came to be scaled because they are recovering from injuries. “In addition to the injuries in the game, the team went in field without four members: Leonardo, Marcelo, Rodrigo and Gabriel, the last one who is preparing to the Saracens Academy in London. Anyway the team was brave, which did not detract SPAC from the victory merit”.
The seven points of the Band Sarries were scored by Marton (try) and Japinha (conversion), the last one being now the highest scorer in the league, reaching 107 points. “The efficient SPAC defence took off our speed. When I scored the try and we could react, I felt a right shoulder injury that was already hurt, but that’s normal, it’s part the game,” resigned Marton. “Now we need to give everything to fight for third place and then focus on the Brazilian Championship that starts this month also to improve our Fourth Place of 2013″.
