São Paulo Saracens have appointed New Zealander Jacob Mangin as their new Head Coach.
Jacob Mangin, who is also the assistant coach of the Brazilian National Sevens team, will begin his new role immediately. The 33 year old New Zealander has a history with the club, having played for São Paulo Sarries and coached the U19 team in 2011 and 2011.
“The team has quality, so there’s not too much to change. The players are strong and intelligent. I’m here to improve the small details, which are often the difference between winning and losing games,” said Mangin.
“It feels great to be involved with the club again and see players who have come through the U19 team I was coaching back in 2010. There’s no doubt the super 8 is our priority this year and we will use the Paulista Championship to prepare for it. Sao Paulo Saracens should be reaching the play-offs, and that will be our goal.”
Off the field, São Paulo Saracens have appointed a Sporting Director for the first time. Marcos Proenca Domingues, another former player, will take up this post and will be responisble for all age categories throughout the club.
“One of my main goals will be to increase the number of juniors in the club, and develop the academy,” said Domingues, one of the founders of the club, in 1983.
He added: “This year 9 players from the U19s represented the senior team. I want to make sure in the future that we always have younger players challenging for places.“
