Band-Sarries wins Rio Branco on Super 10 debut
BandxRioBrancoS102014

Bandeirantes Saracens  São Paulo won Rio Branco by 55 x 24 for Super 10 2014 at the Arena Paulista. Our women’s team also competed in the first round of Super 7′s in Belo Horizonte.

Band-Sarries started the Super 10, the national Brazilian Rugby XV’s first division championship, on the right foot. Playing at home, at the Arena Paulista, Ibirapuera’s team defeated the Rio Branco Rugby for 55 x 24 and finished the first round with 5 points. The number 15  João Paulo Neto “JP” was one of the highlights of the match. Also making difference in the quality passes, which provided the dangerous attacks and good finishes, converter in tries by it’s teammates.

The Red and Black team started keeping the ball and managed to play within it’s game plan. In the first 20 minutes 12 points were scored (Tries from Cavalo and Rosa and a  Japinha conversion). After the team slowed down and gave opportunity to the Rio Branco to decrease. With 12 x 5, Band-Sarries returned to individual plays and scored two more tries (Daniel and Emir). The Rio Branco also launched in attack and scored two more tries, ending the first half with 24 x 17 for Bandeirantes Saracens.

Team coach, Ramiro “Mocho” Mina, evaluated the performance on his debut. “Was a good championship start  with a large score. Although we conceded too much points to the opponent”, said Mocho. “We started well, applying what was trained with intensity. Suddenly we had some mistakes on defense and a lot of individual resulted in tries that could be prevented” he added.

In the interval after some Mocho adjustments, the team returned  more incisive, with a solid base of forwards, leaving room for fast plays from the backs. There were three more tries (Cavalo, JP and Daniel). Final score: 55 x 24 “We hit some glitches in the second half after we suffered the last try and also felt absences of seven injured players. In the next game three or four players may return and we still have a lot of people recovering and traveling in this early Super 10″, he analyzed.

Band-Sarries Captain, Louis “Loco” Franciozi highlighted the objective of the team in the Brazilian Championship, as well as in all competitions. “The team, as I always say, always aims the top; Never play just to play; Works hard, workout after workout, game after game and always seek the highest place of the podium. We want to stay in the top four to reach the semifinals and then, if possible, win the final”, he said.

For Loco, start winning a derby in Super 10 gives confidence to the team, but errors must also be addressed. “The game against Rio Branco is always a duel apart as our historic rivals. What we call ‘Classic of the Classics’. Winning them is to start off on the right foot. But we had many errors at crucial moments. And in today’s competitive Rugby with with competitive teams, it is crucial to not commit these mistakes to not lose on these details.” concluded the captain.

Super 7′s opening round in Belo Horizonte (Women’s 7′s)

FemininoS7sBH2014-2

The women’s 7s team from Band-Sarries played also this weekend in the first of six stages of the Super 7′s championship, in Belo Horizonte. After six games, with three wins and three defeats, ‘Bandetes’ closed the women’s national ‘seven-a-side’ tournament in ninth place. In the 9th place contest, were two wins against Guanabara by 17 x 5 and 31 x 0.

Given the new direction of the group, which prioritizes the versatility, the Band-Sarries tested different configurations, totaling five in six different games. “This work comes from having a universal tactical training, which allows the players change the position within the team without interfering in the performance. Though with prime hardest games, since they have disputes with traditional teams, the evolution of the group was clear in the course of the weekend, with a win over the Niterói, that ended the round in third place, for 17×10, and the closure match with 31 x 0 win upon Guanabara”, said Juliana Modaneze, manager of the team. The Super Sevens will have five more stages in 2014: São José dos Campos, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre wil also receive the Women’s 7′s Brazilian Championship.
